Three Senior Pakistan Navy Officers Elevated to Rank of Rear Admiral

ISLAMABAD, September 4, 2025 – The Pakistan Navy has announced the promotion of three distinguished Commodores to the rank of Rear Admiral in recognition of their long and meritorious service to the nation. The officers promoted are Muhammad Shahnawaz Khan, Asim Sohail Malik, and Sohail Ahmad Azmie.

This promotion reflects not only their personal dedication but also the Navy’s acknowledgment of their leadership in strengthening Pakistan’s maritime defense. All three officers have been awarded the Sitara-i-Imtiaz (Military) for their contributions.

Rear Admiral Muhammad Shahnawaz Khan

  • Commissioned in the Supply Branch in 1993.
  • Graduate of Pakistan Navy War College and National Defence University, Islamabad.
  • Held key roles including Commanding Officer PNS RAZA, Director Procurement (Navy), and Assistant Chief of Naval Staff (Education).
  • Currently serving as Director General Munitions Production at the Ministry of Defence Production, Islamabad.

Rear Admiral Asim Sohail Malik

  • Commissioned in the Operations Branch in 1995.
  • Trained at Pakistan Navy War College, NDU, and advanced courses in Bangladesh and China.
  • Commanded frontline units such as PNS ZARRAR and PNS SHAMSHEER, and served as Chief Staff Officer to Commander Pakistan Fleet.
  • Represented Pakistan at the international level as Commander of Combined Task Force 150 in Bahrain.
  • Presently serving as Director General C4I at Naval Headquarters, Islamabad.

Rear Admiral Sohail Ahmad Azmie

  • Commissioned in the Operations Branch in 1996.
  • Graduate of Britannia Royal Naval College (UK), PN War College, and NDU Islamabad.
  • Served as Commandant of Pakistan Naval Academy, Assistant Chief of Naval Staff (Operational Plans), and Commander AUXMIN-9 Squadron.
  • Commanded Combined Task Force 151 in Bahrain under the Combined Maritime Forces.
  • Currently holds dual responsibilities as Commander Central Punjab and Commandant of PN War College, Lahore.
