Indonesian Defence Minister calls on Chief of Air Staff, Pakistan Air Force

A high-level defence delegation from the Republic of Indonesia, led by the Minister of Defence, Lieutenant General (Retd) Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, called on Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu, NI(M), HJ, Chief of the Air Staff, Pakistan Air Force, at Air Headquarters today.

The visit, which follows the recent state visit of the Indonesian President to Pakistan, underscores the deep-rooted, brotherly ties and historical bond shared between the two nations.

Strengthening Air Force Cooperation

The discussions centered on enhancing bilateral Air Force cooperation, with a particular focus on:

  • Capacity Building & Training: Expanding joint programs to improve operational synergy.
  • Technological Collaboration: Exploring shared ventures in aviation and aerospace technology.
  • Knowledge Exchange: Sustaining high-level dialogue to address evolving regional security challenges.

PAF’s Modernization and Indigenization

Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu briefed the delegation on the Pakistan Air Force’s (PAF) comprehensive modernization roadmap. He highlighted the PAF’s current focus on:

  • Developing state-of-the-art infrastructure.
  • Revamping training curricula to meet modern warfare requirements.
  • The induction of niche capabilities and next-generation platforms to ensure readiness for multi-domain operations.

Recognition of Excellence

Lieutenant General (Retd) Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin praised the PAF’s high standards of professionalism and combat readiness. He specifically lauded the PAF’s significant strides in indigenization, particularly under the umbrella of the National Aerospace Science & Technology Park (NASTP). The Minister expressed a keen interest in leveraging Pakistan’s expertise to expand Indonesia’s own footprint in the aviation and aerospace domains.
