by | Jan 24, 2026

Under the special directives of Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, NI (M), HJ, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) and Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), Pakistan Army rescue teams are conducting extensive relief and rescue operations on a 24/7 basis across the northern parts of the country.

Heavy snowfall has blanketed regions including Murree, Swat, Kalam, Mohmand, Tirah Valley, Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), and Gilgit-Baltistan, leading to significant logistical challenges and stranded populations.

Ensuring Mobility and Safety

Army engineers and rescue troops are working tirelessly to clear blocked arterial roads, ensuring the smooth flow of traffic and restoring vital communication links. Numerous vehicles and individuals stuck in deep snow have been successfully rescued and moved to secure locations.

Comprehensive Humanitarian Support

Recognizing the humanitarian toll of the harsh winter weather, the Pakistan Army is providing:

  • Essential Supplies: Provision of food, warm clothing, and blankets to affected families.
  • Emergency Shelter: Establishment of temporary transit points for those displaced by the weather.
  • Specialized Care: Dedicated arrangements have been implemented to prioritize the care of children, women, the elderly, and persons with disabilities.

Successful Joint Operation in Abbaspur (AJK)

In a notable display of professional expertise and courage, a joint rescue operation was successfully executed in the Abbaspur area of Azad Jammu and Kashmir. Despite treacherous terrain and extreme visibility conditions, Pakistan Army teams, in coordination with the Civil Administration and Rescue 1122, safely rescued 77 stranded civilians and transferred them to safety.

Continuous Monitoring

Army rescue teams remain stationed at high-readiness points within the affected districts to conduct immediate crisis assessments and monitor evolving weather patterns. The primary objective remains the mitigation of human suffering and the prevention of any loss of life during this intense winter spell.

The local populations in the affected areas have expressed their profound gratitude and appreciation for the swift, life-saving interventions and the unwavering presence of the Pakistan Army in their time of need.
