RAWALPINDI, PAKISTAN — Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif visited the General Headquarters (GHQ) on Friday, February 27, 2026, to receive a comprehensive strategic briefing on the rapidly evolving security situation along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border. The visit comes amidst a full-scale military confrontation following the launch of Operation Ghazab-lil-Haqq in response to unprovoked aggression by the Afghan Taliban.

During the high-level session, the Prime Minister was briefed by the military leadership on the progress of counter-operations and the neutralization of terrorist hideouts. Prime Minister Sharif reaffirmed a policy of “zero tolerance” toward the documented nexus between the Afghan Taliban regime and the terrorist group Fitna al-Khawarij (TTP). He characterized the recent cross-border incursions as “unacceptable” and a direct violation of international sovereignty.

Expressing his unwavering confidence in the command of Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), the Prime Minister lauded the professional excellence of the Pakistan Armed Forces. He noted that the military’s swift and “crushing response” has effectively repelled multiple attacks, ensuring the protection of Pakistan’s territorial integrity.

“Pakistan knows how to defend itself against any aggression,” the Prime Minister remarked during the briefing. He emphasized that the entire nation stands shoulder-to-shoulder with its soldiers as they safeguard the homeland from both internal and external threats. The Prime Minister also praised the bravery of the personnel currently engaged in active combat sectors, including Khyber, Kurram, and Chitral.

The briefing concluded with a strategic review of the “open war” status declared following the breakdown of previous diplomatic efforts. The Prime Minister underscored that while Pakistan desires regional peace, it will not hesitate to utilize its full military might to eliminate any threat emanating from Afghan soil.
