RAWALPINDI – August 14, 2025 — Colonel General Karim Valiyev, First Deputy Minister of Defence and Chief of the General Staff of the Azerbaijan Army, held an important meeting with Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, NI (M), at General Headquarters (GHQ) Rawalpindi today. The high-level interaction reflected the deep-rooted brotherly ties and shared strategic interests between Pakistan and Azerbaijan.
During the wide-ranging discussions, both sides reviewed matters of mutual concern with particular emphasis on the evolving global and regional security environment. Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir reaffirmed Pakistan’s enduring fraternal relations with Azerbaijan and reiterated Pakistan’s resolve to further strengthen cooperation across all spheres. He also congratulated Azerbaijan on the successful conclusion of the peace agreement with Armenia, terming it a vital step for regional peace and stability.
Colonel General Karim Valiyev, while acknowledging the professionalism and operational excellence of the Pakistan Armed Forces, praised their outstanding success in operations “Marka-e-Haq” and “Operation Bunyanum Marsoos,” recognizing them as significant milestones in the global fight against terrorism. He extended warm wishes to the people of Pakistan on the country’s forthcoming Independence Day and Victory Celebrations, underscoring the solidarity between the two nations.
Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir expressed gratitude to the leadership and people of Azerbaijan for their steadfast support to Pakistan, especially their solidarity during “Marka-e-Haq.” He also thanked them for the participation of an Azeri contingent in the upcoming Independence Day parade, terming it a gesture that further strengthens the brotherly partnership.
Conferral of Azerbaijan’s Prestigious Award
In a special ceremony, Colonel General Karim Valiyev, on behalf of President Ilham Aliyev, conferred upon Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir the “Patriotic War Medal for Services in the Field of Military Cooperation.” The medal was awarded in recognition of COAS’s exceptional contributions towards enhancing bilateral military cooperation between Pakistan and Azerbaijan. Colonel General Valiyev also commended Pakistan’s consistent role in combating terrorism and reaffirmed Azerbaijan’s determination to expand defense and security collaboration.

The visit began with a formal reception, where Colonel General Karim Valiyev was presented a guard of honor by a contingent of the Pakistan Army. He also laid a floral wreath at the Yadgar-e-Shuhada to pay tribute to Pakistan’s martyrs.
The meeting concluded with both military leaders reiterating their strong commitment to advancing defense ties and joint efforts for regional peace, stability, and prosperity. The discussions highlighted the mutual determination to build on existing foundations and open new avenues of cooperation to meet common challenges.
