Pakistan, Uzbekistan Vow to Deepen Defence and Strategic Cooperation During CJCSC Visit

Tashkent, Uzbekistan — General Sahir Shamshad Mirza, NI (M), Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC), is on an official visit to the Republic of Uzbekistan, where he met with the country’s senior civil and military leadership.

During the visit, CJCSC held meetings with H.E. Shavkat Mirziyoyev, President of Uzbekistan, Major General Shukhrat Kholmukhamedov, Minister of Defence, and Lieutenant General Victor Makhmudov, Secretary of the National Security Council.

Focus on Regional Peace and Security

Talks centered on the evolving regional and international security environment, with both sides stressing the importance of close cooperation to address emerging challenges. Defence collaboration, counterterrorism, border security, and enhanced regional connectivity were highlighted as key areas for joint efforts.

General Mirza underlined Pakistan’s historic and brotherly relations with Uzbekistan, reaffirming Islamabad’s commitment to working closely with Tashkent for peace, stability, and prosperity across Central and South Asia.

Acknowledgment from Uzbek Leadership

Uzbek leaders praised the professionalism of the Pakistan Armed Forces and paid tribute to their sacrifices in the global fight against terrorism. They recognized Pakistan’s important role in advancing regional stability, counter-extremism, and economic connectivity.

Expanding Bilateral Cooperation

Both sides expressed strong commitment to broaden cooperation in multiple domains, including:

  • Defence and security — with emphasis on training, joint exercises, and professional exchanges,

  • Road and rail connectivity — strengthening Pakistan’s role as a trade and transit hub for Central Asia through initiatives like CPEC and the Trans-Afghan Corridor,

  • Economic, technological, and cultural linkages — further consolidating long-term strategic relations.

General Mirza reaffirmed that the Pakistan Armed Forces are fully committed to assisting Uzbekistan in capacity-building initiatives and expanding institutional cooperation between the two militaries.

Commitment to Shared Goals

The visit reflects a growing alignment of Pakistan and Uzbekistan’s strategic outlook. Both nations reaffirmed their determination to enhance regional integration, counter transnational threats, and unlock new opportunities in defence, trade, and connectivity.
