Pakistan Air Force Marks 83 Glorious Years of No 6 Air Mobility Squadron “The Antelopes”

by | Dec 2, 2025

On this day, 1 December 1942, No 6 Squadron – the legendary “Antelopes” – was raised at Trichinopoly (present-day Tiruchirappalli), India, on Hawker Hurricane aircraft, marking the beginning of an unparalleled legacy in the annals of the Pakistan Air Force.

From mastering Hurricanes, Spitfires, Dakotas, Bristol Freighters, CN-235s and the iconic C-130 Hercules, the Antelopes have repeatedly redefined air mobility excellence.

In the 1947–48 Kashmir War, Flying Officer Mukhtar Dogar’s daring supply drop while evading two enemy Hawker Tempests became an early symbol of the Squadron’s indomitable spirit. The 1965 and 1971 Indo-Pak Wars saw No 6 Squadron execute high-risk bombing, paratrooping and resupply missions deep behind enemy lines, earning it the unique distinction of being the first PAF squadron to be awarded Squadron Colours and Battle Honours.

The Antelopes played a pivotal role during Pakistan’s 1998 nuclear tests at Chaghi, providing uninterrupted strategic airlift under extreme secrecy and security conditions. From earthquake relief in 2005 and 2010, flood operations, to international humanitarian missions in Indonesia, Turkiye, Nepal and beyond, the Squadron has repeatedly proven its versatility and compassion.

On the global stage, No 6 Squadron’s C-130 crews have dominated the Royal International Air Tattoo (RIAT), sweeping top trophies in 2006, 2016 and again in 2025 – a testament to their precision, professionalism and flair.
