Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir Instituted as Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces

Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, NI (M), HJ, was honored with a Tri Services Guard of Honour at the General Headquarters (GHQ) today, a ceremony marking the formal institution of his dual appointment as the Chief of Army Staff and the country’s first-ever Chief of Defence Forces (COAS & CDF).

The historic event was attended by Admiral Naveed Ashraf, NI, NI (M), Chief of the Naval Staff, Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Babar Sidhu, NI (M), HJ, Chief of Air Staff, and senior military officers from all three services, underscoring the new era of jointness within Pakistan’s Armed Forces.

Focus on Marka-e-Haq and Future Warfare

Addressing the tri-services officers, the COAS & CDF reiterated the extraordinary courage and conviction displayed by the Pakistani nation and the professionalism of the Armed Forces during Marka-e-Haq. He declared that the Multi Domain Operations executed during Marka-e-Haq have become a “textbook example and case study for future warfare.” Field Marshal Munir paid deep homage to the martyrs, emphasizing their enduring role as the pride of the nation.

Strategic Integration for Emerging Threats

Field Marshal Munir stressed the critical necessity of a formalized arrangement for tri-services integration and synergy. He highlighted that the Armed Forces must remain aligned with the new realities of warfare, which now encompass an exhaustive array of emerging technologies. These technologies include:

  • Cyber space
  • Electro-magnetic spectrum
  • Outer-space
  • Information Operations
  • Artificial Intelligence and Quantum Computing

He termed the newly instituted CDF Headquarters as historic, noting that it will afford the requisite integration, coherence, and coordination needed to meet the dynamics of the future threat spectrum under a comprehensive tri-services umbrella.

Vision for the Armed Forces

In his closing remarks, Field Marshal Munir encapsulated his vision for the Armed Forces: to be a “culturally futuristic, combat ready military machine that deters aggression and enjoys full confidence of the Nation.”

The ceremony concluded with the presentation of awards to the heroes of Marka-e-Haq from both the Pakistan Navy and the Pakistan Air Force, recognizing their specific acts of valour during the operations.
