Captain, Two Soldiers, and Civilian Embrace Shahadat in Burzil Pass Snow Clearance Operation

In the line of duty and demonstrating unwavering devotion to the cause of defending the motherland, three individuals, including a high-ranking officer of the Pakistan Armed Forces, embraced Shahadat during a challenging snow clearance operation at Burzil Pass.

The Incident

On the night of 2/3 January 2026, a critical Snow Clearance Operation was underway to open the Burzil Pass to facilitate the operational movement of forces in the region. The operation, conducted in extreme weather conditions and involving heavy machinery, was led by Captain Asmad (28, resident of Lahore).

At approximately 0200 hours on 3 January 2026, a massive snow slide was triggered. The sudden avalanche entrapped Captain Asmad, two soldiers, and a civilian machine operator from the Public Works Department (PWD).

Rescue Efforts and Shahadat

Following the incident, an intensive search and rescue operation was immediately launched. Despite the perilous conditions, all four individuals were eventually recovered from the snow. However, due to the severity of the conditions and injuries sustained, the health of three individuals deteriorated rapidly.

With profound grief, it is reported that the following personnel embraced Shahadat:

• Captain Asmad (28, resident of Lahore)
• Sepoy Rizwan (32, resident of Attock)
• Machine Operator Essa (resident of Astore)

One soldier was successfully rescued and is receiving medical attention.

These brave individuals rendered the ultimate sacrifice while leading a high-risk operation in one of the world’s most inhospitable environments. Their actions ensured that the operational readiness and movement of our forces remained unhindered.

The sacrifice and devotion to duty exhibited by these individuals serve as a poignant testimony to the fact that all ranks of the Pakistan Armed Forces, supported by dedicated civilians, remain determined to defend the motherland and will never hesitate to lay down their lives in the line of duty.
