The opening ceremony of the 9th International Pakistan Army Team Spirit (PATS) Competition–2026 was held today at the National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC), Pabbi. The event marks the beginning of a prestigious, task-oriented military exercise designed to foster international military-to-military cooperation and professional excellence.

Global Participation and Friendly Ties

The 2026 edition of PATS features a significant international footprint, with 24 international teams from 19 friendly countries participating alongside military observers. The diverse lineup of participating nations includes:

  • Participants: Bahrain, Bangladesh, Belarus, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, Maldives, Morocco, Nepal, Qatar, Sri Lanka, Türkiye, United States of America, and Uzbekistan.
  • Observers: Indonesia, Myanmar, and Thailand.

From the domestic front, 16 teams from the Pakistan Army and Pakistan Navy are competing, supported by observers from the Pakistan Air Force.

60 Hours of High-Intensity Operations

The competition kicked off with a grueling 60-hour long Patrolling Exercise. As a mission-specific event, PATS tests the limits of physical endurance, mental resilience, and tactical expertise. Participants are required to navigate near-real operational environments, making rapid decisions under pressure while executing complex sub-tactical missions.

Promoting Interoperability and Innovation

The primary objective of the annual exercise is to promote perseverance through team spirit. By sharing innovative ideas and best practices, the competition seeks to:

  • Hone basic soldierly attributes across different military cultures.
  • Enhance interoperability between Pakistan’s armed forces and those of friendly nations.
  • Strengthen diplomatic and defense ties through mutual professional respect.

A Senior Officer attending the inaugural event emphasized that PATS has become a benchmark for professional military training, reflecting Pakistan’s commitment to global peace and collaborative security.
