by | Feb 14, 2026

Marking a major milestone in South Asian-Southeast Asian defense relations, Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu, Chief of the Air Staff (CAS) of the Pakistan Air Force (PAF), concluded a high-profile official visit to Indonesia on February 13, 2026. The visit culminated in a series of strategic agreements aimed at integrating Pakistan’s advanced aerospace infrastructure with Indonesia’s modernization goals.

Strategic Partnership at the Presidential Level

In a pivotal meeting at the Presidential Complex in Jakarta, Air Chief Marshal Sidhu called on President Prabowo Subianto. The Air Chief underscored the deep-rooted brotherhood and shared values that define the Pak-Indo relationship.

President Prabowo expressed a keen interest in leveraging the PAF’s “state-of-the-art training ecosystem” and the technological infrastructure of the National Aerospace Science & Technology Park (NASTP). The Indonesian leadership signaled an intent to utilize Pakistani expertise to catalyze Indonesia’s own defense self-reliance and aerospace capabilities.

The Medal of Honour & Military Diplomacy

In recognition of his landmark role in strengthening bilateral air power cooperation, Air Chief Marshal Sidhu was conferred with the Medal of Honour, the highest military award of the Indonesian Air Force.

Earlier, the Air Chief held high-level engagements with:

  • Lt. Gen. (Retd) Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, Minister of Defence

  • Indonesian Air Marshal, Chief of the Indonesian Air Force

  • Commander of the Indonesian National Armed Forces

At each venue, the Air Chief was accorded a Guard of Honour, reflecting the deep respect and warmth shared between the two brotherly nations.

Expanded Operational & Technical Cooperation

Discussions between the two Air Chiefs focused on a comprehensive roadmap for Air Force-to-Air Force (AF-to-AF) cooperation, including:

  • Advanced Joint Training: Programs spanning basic flight instruction to advanced combat tactics.

  • Professional Exchanges: Sustained pilot and engineering staff exchange programs.

  • Emerging Domains: Collaboration in niche areas such as Cyber, Space, Unmanned Systems, and Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR).

The Indonesian Air Chief specifically sought PAF’s support in advancing flying training, acknowledging the force’s rich combat experience—particularly following the PAF’s successful operations and combat-tested credentials highlighted during regional standoffs last year.
