Pakistan Resumes Operation Ghazab-lil-Haq as Diplomatic Pause Concludes

by | Mar 27, 2026

The Government of Pakistan officially announced on Thursday that the temporary humanitarian pause in Operation Ghazab-lil-Haq has concluded. Military operations against the Afghan Taliban’s command and terror infrastructure have resumed in full force and will continue “until all strategic objectives are achieved,” according to the Foreign Office (FO).

During his weekly briefing, FO Spokesperson Tahir Andrabi clarified that the suspension—observed out of deference to Eid-ul-Fitr and requests from brotherly Islamic nations—was a time-bound gesture that ended at midnight on March 23.

Launched on February 26 following unprovoked cross-border aggression, Operation Ghazab-lil-Haq remains a “precise, targeted campaign” aimed at dismantling the foundations of regional instability.

  • Primary Targets: The campaign continues to focus on the Afghan Taliban’s leadership, command infrastructure, and logistics networks, specifically targeting those providing sanctuary to Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

  • The Ultimatum: Andrabi emphasized that operations will persist until the interim Afghan regime “reviews its misplaced priority of supporting terror proxies over the welfare of its own people.”

  • Clerical Appeals: While a joint group of Pakistani and Afghan clerics sought to extend the truce until Eid-ul-Adha, Islamabad has maintained that no extension is possible while terrorist sanctuaries remain operational on Afghan soil.

In a significant humanitarian development, the Torkham border crossing—closed since the onset of hostilities on February 26—was reopened on Thursday specifically to facilitate the return of Afghan nationals.

  • Repatriation Process: Officials at the Landi Kotal transit center processed the first batches of stranded and undocumented Afghan nationals. Approximately 150 individuals underwent registration and clearance for voluntary deportation and return.

  • Safe Passage: Families with expired travel documents were allowed to cross after processing. Simultaneously, Pakistani authorities coordinated with Afghan border officials to ensure the safe repatriation of Pakistani citizens stranded on the other side.

The resumption of the western border operation coincides with Pakistan’s high-stakes mediation in the US-Israel-Iran war.

  • Border Integrity: The Foreign Office reiterated that while Pakistan seeks regional peace (the “Islamabad Option”), it will not compromise on its territorial integrity or the safety of its citizens against “Fitna al-Khawarij” and its sponsors.

  • The “Gudwana” Consolidation: Military sources confirm that the newly secured Gudwana Enclave (32 sq km) is now being fortified as a permanent defensive bastion to prevent future incursions during this renewed phase of the operation.
