On April 19, 2026, security forces conducted an intelligence-based operation in the Bannu District following reports regarding the presence of “khwarij,” resulting in the elimination of two high-profile militants. According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the targets included “Kharji Ring leader Waheedullah alias Muktiar along with a Suicide bomber,” both of whom were “sent to hell” following an intense exchange of fire.

Waheedullah was a primary target on the most-wanted list due to his involvement in the “shahadat of security forces personnel and innocent civilians,” and he was notably identified as the “main handler of a suicide bomber in Bannu District on 21 February 2026, resulting into Shahadat of Lieutenant Colonel Gul Faraz Shaheed.”
The ISPR emphasized that the success of this mission “has indeed avenged the heinous act and has brought the main perpetrator to justice,” while further noting that the “timely action of security forces also averted a major catastrophe.”
During the operation, troops recovered a suicide jacket along with various weapons and ammunition from the deceased. Currently, a sanitization operation is underway to clear the area, as the state remains committed to its “relentless Counter Terrorism campaign under vision ‘Azm e Istehkam‘” with the resolve to “continue at full pace to wipe out the menace of foreign sponsored and supported terrorism from the country.”
