Record-Breaking Marksmen
The 2026 edition of the COAS Cup will be remembered for the extraordinary precision displayed by its top competitors, who navigated challenging wind conditions and mirage to set new benchmarks for the sport:
-
Lt Col Junaid Ali Zulfiqar: The standout performer of the championship, Lt Col Junaid clinched the Full Target Rifle (FTR) Trophy and secured first place in the 300-meter Sporting Rifle Match and the 1,000-yard FTR Match No. 2. Most significantly, he established a new national record in the FTR Aggregate category.
-
Waleed Ahmed Gul: Dominating the open classes, Gul secured the F-Freestyle Open Trophy and swept both 1,000-yard F-Open Matches (No. 1 and No. 2). He etched his name in the record books by setting new national records in both the F-Open 1000-yard and F-Open Aggregate categories.
Elite Competition, and Tactical Mastery
The championship featured a diverse array of rifle disciplines, highlighting the technical depth of Pakistan’s shooting community:
-
Tactical & Iron Sight: Lieutenant General Ahsan Gulrez demonstrated superior tactical precision to win the Tactical Match, while also securing first place in the 900-yard FTR Match. Meanwhile, NooR Zaman triumphed in the Iron Sight Rifle Match, a discipline requiring immense skill without the aid of magnified optics.
-
National Representation: The participation of marksmen from all four provinces, particularly the growing representation from Balochistan, underscored the successful efforts of the Pakistan Army to promote competitive shooting as a unifying national sport.
The Road to the World Championship
The COAS Cup served as a critical evaluation phase for Pakistan’s national long-range rifle team. Following their record-breaking performances in Multan and recent successes on the European circuit, the team is now set to represent the country at the 7th F-Class World Championship in the United Kingdom, scheduled for August 2026.
“Proficiency at shooting remains at the heart of our basic military training and sportsmanship. These records reflect the discipline and dedication required to compete at a global level.” — Senior Official, Pakistan Army
