December 8th, 1958, marks the formal handover of Gwadar from Oman to Pakistan, an enduring milestone in the country’s maritime and national history. On this significant day, a Pakistan Navy platoon, under the leadership of then Lieutenant Iftikhar Ahmed Sirohey (who later became the Chief of the Naval Staff), hoisted the Pakistan flag over Gwadar for the very first time, cementing the port’s integration and securing a vital piece of the nation’s coastline.

The commemoration of Gwadar Day celebrates the strategic importance of this port to Pakistan’s future and honors the role of the Pakistan Navy in securing this vital asset.
