National Security and Sectarian Harmony: Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir Meets Ulema of Ahl-e-Tasheeh

by | Mar 19, 2026

In a high-level interaction focused on domestic stability and regional security, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, NI (M), HJ, Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) and Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), met with prominent Ulema of the Ahl-e-Tasheeh community in Rawalpindi. The session underscored the military leadership’s commitment to internal cohesion as Pakistan navigates a complex security landscape.

Countering Misinformation and External Destabilization

The Field Marshal highlighted the indispensable role of religious scholars in safeguarding the social fabric of Pakistan. He specifically called upon the Ulema to act as a bulwark against:

  • Sectarian Narratives: Preventing the polarization of society along religious lines.

  • Misinformation: Countering fake news and propaganda that seek to create internal friction.

  • External Interference: Neutralizing externally sponsored efforts designed to destabilize the country.

Field Marshal Munir emphasized that religious sentiments must remain a source of unity and should never be exploited to incite violence or chaos.

Zero Tolerance for Spillover Violence

A key takeaway from the interaction was the Field Marshal’s firm stance on international conflicts impacting domestic peace. Referencing the volatile regional situation, he stated unequivocally that violence in Pakistan based on incidents occurring in other countries will not be tolerated. This directive serves as a clear warning against any attempts to use regional geopolitical shifts—such as the ongoing US-Israeli-Iran tensions—as a pretext for domestic unrest.

Update on Operation Ghazab lil-Haq

Turning to the Western border, the Field Marshal reiterated the objectives of Operation Ghazab lil-Haq. He sent a direct message to the Afghan Taliban regime, demanding they fulfill their responsibility to prevent Afghan soil from being used for terrorism against Pakistan.

“Pakistan will eliminate terrorists and their infrastructure wherever they may be through precise, intelligence-based operations,” the Field Marshal declared.

He maintained that while Pakistan pursues proactive diplomacy for regional de-escalation, it remains resolute in its mission to dismantle any “Fitna” operating against the state.

A United Front for Peace

The participating Ulema expressed their full consensus on national security matters, condemning violence in the name of religion in the strongest possible terms. The delegation voiced their wholehearted support for law enforcement agencies (LEAs) in their ongoing efforts to bring lasting peace and stability to the country.

By engaging directly with the Ahl-e-Tasheeh community, the military leadership has reinforced the message that Pakistan’s defense is not merely a matter of border security, but one of deep-rooted ideological and societal unity.
