Islamabad | September 8, 2025 – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif chaired a high-level meeting in Islamabad where Pakistan and leading US firms formalized a $500 million partnership in the minerals sector. The visiting delegation included representatives of United States Strategic Metals (USSM) and Mota-Engil Group, two major players in the global mining and infrastructure industries. The talks focused on expanding mining operations in Pakistan, building value-added facilities, and strengthening logistics to support exports.

Two key Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) were signed during the visit. The Frontier Works Organization (FWO) partnered with USSM in a $500m agreement to immediately begin mineral exports and later establish a poly-metallic refinery in Pakistan. This facility will process antimony, copper, gold, tungsten, and rare earth elements, directly serving defence, aerospace, and technology industries.

In parallel, the National Logistics Corporation (NLC) signed an MoU with Mota-Engil Group, aimed at enhancing infrastructure and supply-chain capacity to support mining and industrial growth.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif described the agreements as “a milestone for sustainable economic recovery and investment confidence.” The US firms, in turn, reaffirmed their readiness to ensure transparency, sustainability, and technology transfer.

The presence of Field Marshal Asim Munir underscored the armed forces’ continued role in facilitating strategic investments and national resilience. This partnership not only strengthens Pakistan-US economic cooperation but also opens new opportunities in critical minerals, logistics, and infrastructure development.
