Historic Leadership in the 1965 War
As a Squadron Leader and Commanding Officer of the illustrious No. 19 Squadron, Sajad Haider led the PAF’s first offensive strike of the 1965 War. Under his command, eight F-86 Sabres successfully infiltrated enemy defenses at Pathankot, destroying a significant number of MiGs, Mysteres, and C-119 transport aircraft on the ground.
His decisive actions along the Amritsar–Wagah axis were instrumental in halting the enemy’s advance toward Lahore. Throughout the conflict, his tally of success included:
- Four enemy aircraft shot down in aerial combat.
- Eleven tanks destroyed and three others damaged.
- A key role in the Battle of Chawinda, where his formation decimated enemy ground positions and assets.
For his conspicuous bravery and leadership, he was decorated with the Sitara-e-Jurat, the third-highest military award of Pakistan.
Command in the 1971 War
During the 1971 War, then-Officer Commanding No. 33 Wing at Sargodha, he oversaw complex operations involving Mirages, Sabres, F-6s, and F-104s. Under his supervision, the wing maintained a high operational tempo, flying up to 60 sorties daily to provide critical strike and close air support under demanding combat conditions.
