The SH-15 is a modern, truck-mounted 155mm howitzer of Chinese origin, representing a new generation of mobile artillery. This system is a significant acquisition for the Pakistan Army, offering a highly mobile and lethal alternative to traditional towed and tracked artillery. Also known as the PCL-181, the SH-15 combines a powerful 155mm howitzer with a lightweight 6×6 truck chassis. This design provides several advantages, including a high strategic and tactical mobility, a lower operational cost compared to heavy tracked vehicles, and ease of deployment via air transport. The SH-15’s 155mm howitzer is equipped with a 52-caliber barrel, giving it an impressive range of up to 53 km when using extended-range or rocket-assisted projectiles. The system is highly automated, with a computerized fire control system that enables a rapid “shoot-and-scoot” capability, allowing the crew to fire a burst of rounds and quickly relocate to avoid counter-battery fire. This enhances survivability on the modern battlefield. The SH-15 can fire a wide range of NATO-standard 155mm ammunition, including conventional high-explosive rounds, as well as more advanced precision-guided munitions. This versatility, combined with its accuracy and long range, makes the SH-15 a powerful and flexible asset for Pakistan’s artillery corps.
