In 1965, then Cpl Tech Sher Muhammad was stationed at PAF Station Sargodha, manning a light anti-aircraft gun. On the morning of September 6th, after a night of selfless dedication to his duty, he detected six enemy Mystere aircraft initiating a low-level attack. Recognizing the imminent threat to PAF aircraft and the base, he acted decisively.
Despite facing intense strafing and rocket fire, Cpl Tech Sher Muhammad maintained his position, delivering accurate and relentless fire upon the enemy raiders. When one of the attackers targeted his position, he remained steadfast, continuing to fire with unwavering resolve. His exceptional marksmanship resulted in the downing of an enemy Mystere, causing the remaining aircraft to retreat and saving the base and its crucial assets from destruction.
For his exceptional gallantry and dedication to duty, he was awarded the Tamgha-e-Jurat.
Flt Lt (MWO) Sher Muhammad’s legacy of courage, vigilance, and unwavering commitment remains deeply ingrained in the history of the Pakistan Air Force, serving as an inspiration for generations of air warriors. His story continues to exemplify the PAF’s core values of bravery, dedication, and selfless service to the nation.
