BANNU (April 29, 2026) — At least six terrorists were killed early Wednesday morning after Bannu police successfully repelled a large-scale attack on the Mazanga police post. The assault, which took place in the pre-dawn hours, was met with a swift and effective response from on-duty personnel. While one terrorist’s body was recovered from the site, police officials confirmed that five others were killed during the intense exchange of fire before their bodies were retrieved by fleeing accomplices. One police constable sustained minor injuries during the engagement but is reported to be in stable condition.

  • One constable sustained minor injuries; he is currently receiving treatment and is out of danger.
  • Police recovered a cache of weapons, including hand grenades, magazines, and bandoliers, from the scene.
  • Rapid Response and Quick Response Forces launched a search operation to track the fleeing attackers.

Tactical Response and Recovery

Following the initial attack, high-ranking officials including District Police Officer (DPO) Yasir Afridi and DSP Arshad Khan arrived with reinforcements to secure the perimeter. The area remained cordoned off throughout the morning as teams conducted a sweep of the surrounding terrain to disrupt any remaining militant presence.

The recovery of specialized gear and grenades indicates the attackers were prepared for a sustained engagement. Regional Police Officer (RPO) Sajjad Khan stated that the force remains an “iron wall” against rising militancy in the district.

The Bannu Security Context

Bannu has become a frequent flashpoint for insurgent activity in recent months. The attack follows the recent abduction of five NRTC workers and a Sunday shooting that injured a head constable and his five-year-old daughter.

Earlier this week, the Bomb Disposal Squad successfully defused an IED in the Kakki area, preventing a potential mass-casualty event. On April 19, security forces eliminated the main handler of a suicide bomber responsible for the martyrdom of Lt. Col. Gul Faraz earlier this year.

The successful defense of the Mazanga post is seen as a morale booster for the provincial police force, which has been increasingly targeted by militant groups in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
