Pakistan and Egypt have begun a two-week bilateral counter-terrorism exercise named Thunder-II at the Special Operations School in Cherat, Pakistan.

The exercise, which commenced on 6 April 2026, involves troops from Pakistan Army’s elite Special Services Group (SSG) and the Special Forces of the Egyptian Army. It aims to enhance operational skills, share professional expertise, and further strengthen military-to-military ties between the two countries.

The opening ceremony was graced by the Commandant of the Special Operations School, Cherat, who served as the chief guest. Senior officers from both armies were present on the occasion.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Thunder-II focuses on joint training in various aspects of counter-terrorism operations, including tactical drills, intelligence sharing, close-quarter battle, and special operations planning. Participating troops will benefit from the exchange of experiences and best practices developed by both forces in combating terrorism.

This is the second edition of the bilateral exercise. Defence officials say such joint drills play a vital role in building interoperability and mutual understanding between the special forces of Pakistan and Egypt.

Pakistan and Egypt share longstanding friendly relations, and defence cooperation forms an important pillar of their bilateral ties. The successful conduct of Thunder-II is expected to further deepen this military partnership.

The exercise will continue till 20 April 2026.
