Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir Launches Decisive Anti-Drug Campaign in Balochistan

In a landmark move to safeguard the future of Pakistan and protect its young generation from the scourge of narcotics, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff (COAS), has directed the launch of a decisive anti-drug campaign in Balochistan.

Under his direct guidance, the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF), in coordination with provincial authorities, law enforcement agencies, and local administrations, has initiated a large-scale crackdown aimed at eliminating poppy cultivation, dismantling drug trafficking networks, and shutting down narcotics dens across the province.

Already, significant progress has been made as poppy fields have been destroyed in multiple districts. Simultaneously, operations against drug cartels and production hubs are underway to cut off the supply chain at its roots. This campaign is not only focused on curbing narcotics but also seeks to break the dangerous link between drug money and terrorism, a nexus that has long fueled instability in the region.

Recognizing the socioeconomic dimensions of the issue, the initiative also includes measures to introduce alternative livelihood opportunities for communities previously dependent on poppy cultivation. These steps are designed to ensure sustainable development and prevent a return to the illicit trade.

“The fight against drugs is not just the government’s effort, but a national responsibility. Every institution, community, and individual must play their part to rid Pakistan of this menace,” stated Field Marshal Asim Munir.

Officials emphasized that this campaign is not a temporary drive but part of a long-term strategy to dismantle the nexus of drugs, crime, and terrorism. Security institutions, the provincial government, and civil society have been urged to work collectively to secure a drug-free future for Balochistan and, by extension, Pakistan.

This decisive initiative demonstrates the state’s unyielding resolve to protect its people, uphold the rule of law, and build a stronger, healthier Pakistan free from the grip of narcotics.
