Pakistani security forces have successfully conducted an intelligence-based operation in the Dera Ismail Khan district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) province, killing seven Pakistani Taliban militants. The operation comes amid a significant surge in militancy targeting security forces in the region.

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the military’s media wing, confirmed that among those killed were three Afghan nationals and two suicide bombers. The presence of foreign nationals among the deceased highlights the use of Afghan soil for terrorist activities against Pakistan. The ISPR noted that a sanitization operation is underway to eliminate any other militants in the area.

This operation follows recent deadly encounters in the restive border region where 12 Pakistani soldiers and over 60 militants were killed. Pakistan has been grappling with a renewed wave of militancy since a fragile truce with the Pakistani Taliban collapsed in November 2022.

The Pakistani military statement explicitly called on the interim Afghan government to uphold its responsibilities and deny its soil for terrorist activities against Pakistan. This official statement underscores Pakistan’s ongoing concerns regarding cross-border terrorism and its demand for effective action from its neighbor.
