As part of the ongoing ISPR Winter Internship Program 2026, a large cohort of university students from across Pakistan visited the strategic hub of Gwadar Port and the operational fleet of the Pakistan Navy. Organized under the auspices of the General Officer Commanding (GOC) Gwadar, the study tour was designed to provide the youth with first-hand exposure to Pakistan’s maritime defense capabilities and the burgeoning “Blue Economy.”

Deep Dive into Maritime Strategy
The visit served as a practical extension of the interns’ national awareness training, bridging the gap between academic theory and the ground realities of national security:
-
Gwadar Seaport Briefing: Students were given a comprehensive walkthrough of the administrative and operational aspects of the deep-sea port. Port authorities highlighted its role as the crown jewel of regional connectivity and its potential to revolutionize Pakistan’s trade landscape.
-
Onboard the Fleet: The highlight of the day was a tour of two of the Navy’s most formidable assets: PNS Zulfiqar (Sword-class frigate) and PNS Aslat. Naval officers briefed the students on the advanced weapon systems, sensory technologies, and the vital role the Navy plays in protecting Pakistan’s 1,014 km coastline.
-
Maritime Defense: Detailed sessions focused on the challenges of maritime security, counter-piracy operations, and the protection of the Sea Lines of Communication (SLOCs) that are vital to national energy security.
Youth Engagement and National Resolve
The visit concluded with recreational boating in the Gwadar bay, allowing participants to experience the natural beauty and strategic geography of the Makran coastline.
-
Student Reflections: Interns praised the program as “impressive and eye-opening,” with many noting that the tour cleared misconceptions regarding Balochistan’s development and security.
-
The “Champion” Narrative: The tour followed earlier sessions by eminent educationists and DG ISPR, who described the youth as the “hope, champions, and protectors of Pakistan’s future,” emphasizing their role in countering digital misinformation.
“These tours are essential for the youth to understand the immense professional responsibilities and the high state of readiness of our defense institutions,” noted a senior military official during the interaction.
