In a significant boost to Pakistan’s maritime defense capabilities, the fourth HANGOR Class submarine, named GHAZI, was successfully launched today at the Shuangliu Base in Wuhan, China.

With the launching of GHAZI, the Pakistan Navy has achieved a major milestone in its fleet modernization program. All four submarines under construction in China are now either undergoing rigorous sea trials or are in the final stages of being handed over to the Pakistan Navy.

The acquisition of eight HANGOR Class submarines is the result of a government-to-government agreement between Pakistan and China. Under the terms of the contract:

  • Four Submarines are being constructed in China.
  • Four Submarines will be constructed locally at Karachi Shipyard and Engineering Works Ltd (KS&EW) under a comprehensive Transfer of Technology (ToT) agreement.

These state-of-the-art vessels are equipped with advanced weapons and sensor suites, providing the Pakistan Navy with the capability to engage targets at standoff ranges. The HANGOR Class submarines are designed to be a potent deterrent, playing a pivotal role in maintaining peace, stability, and the balance of power in the Indian Ocean Region.

The launching ceremony was attended by senior military and government officials from both Pakistan and China. The presence of high-level dignitaries underscores the “All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership” between the two nations and their deepening cooperation in the field of high-end defense technology.
