WANA (April 29, 2026) — At least five civilians, including four children and a woman, were injured on Wednesday when mortar shells fired from across the Afghan border struck residential areas in South Waziristan’s Angoor Adda village. According to security sources, the shells hit two separate homes, injuring children aged between three and 13. The victims were immediately transported to the District Headquarters Hospital in Wana. The Pakistan Army responded with retaliatory fire, successfully targeting the launch positions and forcing Afghan Taliban personnel to abandon their posts and flee.

Quick Facts

  • Five civilians (four children and one woman) were injured by cross-border mortar fire in Angoor Adda.
  • The Pakistan Army retaliated by neutralizing the firing positions, forcing the attackers to retreat.
  • Infiltration attempts by “Fitna al Khawarij” (TTP) militants were reportedly thwarted by military personnel.
  • This marks the second time this week that civilians in South Waziristan have been targeted by unprovoked fire.
  • The strike occurred within the context of the ongoing “Operation Ghazab lil-Haq,” launched to secure the border.

Security sources state that the mortar attack was an act of frustration following failed attempts by the Afghan Taliban to facilitate the crossing of TTP militants into Pakistani territory. Prompt military action blocked a specific infiltration attempt, leading the retreating forces to target the civilian population instead.

Officials noted that this is part of a broader trend of unprovoked fire targeting border districts including Dir, Bajaur, and North Waziristan. The border remains on high alert as Operation Ghazab lil-Haq continues to target militant sanctuaries and firing positions used to facilitate cross-border aggression.
